Beyond The Vines, From Orchard to Jakarta

The Singaporean brand takes Jakarta's fashion wave.

Walk along Jakarta's hype places, and you will most likely find someone carrying a practical dumpling bag from Beyond The Vines. This nylon-based, reversible and water-resistant bag have been making waves in Orchard since the beginning of 2020, and is now taking over Jakarta with new colorways and revamped design. A Singaporean couple, Rebecca Ting and Daniel Chew, founded the brand back in 2005 starting off as a sole e-commerce venture.

The pair started working on the rebranding at the end of 2019, and when the pandemic hit in early 2020, they quickly shifted the focus from ready-to-wear to accessories, to accommodate the demands of their customers during the circuit breaker when everyone was working from home. And that’s how they created the local version of an It bag – the Dumpling Bag.

A brand that goes beyond clothing; merging together inspiration from their shared appreciation for travel and architecture and the constant desire to elevate looks which can meet the needs of any woman or men from all walks of life. I found out about this brand from Kartika Lin, a visionary creative behind The Watch Co. When Tika sent me the bag, I fell in love instantly. The design is bold, but with practical simplicity to add wearability. High-quality materials are combined with playful design, creating a fashion staple for everyday people, especially ones who needs accessibility.

Going in for the sartorial kill, Beyond The Vines has made an entrance worldwide with four physical retail stores and has even garnered a presence across international waters. Although they haven't opened a branch in Indonesia, report says that there are plenty of jastipers going around Orchard to fulfil Indonesian women getting their taste of the Dumpling Bag.
