Popbela Red Carpet: Srimulat Hil yang Mustahal

Indonesia's first red carpet fashion police, live on YouTube.

When we hear the word Srimulat, we often think about one of Indonesian original comedy group that was broadcasted in television nationwide since the 1980s. Often being the spotlight in my family's night-time routine in my childhood days, IDN Pictures along with MNC Pictures have brought the journey of Srimulat to the big screen in their newest movie, Srimulat: Hil yang Mustahal.

Founded by Teguh Slamet Rahardjo in Surakarta in 1950, Srimulat, named after his late wife Raden Ayu Srimulat, have a huge influence in Indonesia's comedy journey. Prominent names like Tarzan, Tessi, Basuki, Gepeng, Nunung and many more have paved the way to our young comedians. Their often slapstick live comedy soared in the 80s and 90s on television, entertaining millions of household across Indonesia. In 2022, IDN Pictures and MNC Pictures are telling the story behind the group of Srimulat that we all know, focusing on the early days of Srimulat and how they begin their broadcasting journey. The biopic movie starred by Bio One, Ibnu Jamil, Teuku Rifnu Wikana, Elang El Gibran and many more is directed by Fajar Nugros and set to premiere on May 19th, 2022. But before the nation-wide premiere, POPBELA.com have the inside scoop of the Srimulat: Hil yang Mustahal gala premiere through POPBELA Red Carpet.

Together with Ayu Utami and produced by Iqbal Pratama, we hosted the night's Gala Premiere with a special red carpet show. The idea popped up when our Editorial Team was live-covering the MET Gala back in early May, when somebody mentioned why Indonesia hasn't got any exclusive red carpet fashion programs all through the years. Based on data from CNBC Indonesia (2019), the development of the fashion industry can contribute around 18.01% or IDR 116 trillion to Indonesia's creative economy. In other words, fashion is also a cohort for Indonesia’s economy and its wages regulation and policy significantly affect employment and its GDP for sure.

Seeing the opportunity, our team hustled the idea of creating a program that can contribute to Indonesia's fashion growth, hoping to add more space for our local labels, designers and artist to showcase their creations, as well as strengthening the impact of brands and celebrities to the public eyes. POPBELA Red Carpet was built to connect celebrities, fashion brands and mass audience to be able to exhibit their style and introduce more fashion brands and designers to the public eye.

With the dress-code 'Indonesian Attire', public figures arrived at the POPBELA Red Carpet at Gala Premiere Srimulat: Hil yang Mustahal wearing Indonesia's beautiful fashion heritage. From Batik to Tenun, the red carpet was filled with numerous names supporting the movie filled with amazing cast, ready to enjoy the labour of love directed and produced by the pair Fajar Nugros and Susanti Dewi.

We get to witness the special guest's fashion choices while having fun conversations with all the cast broadcasted live on POPBELA.com YouTube channel. Some of Srimulat's original member also made their appearance on the POPBELA Red Carpet, Mr. Tarzan and Mr. Tessi gave their two cents about their personal journey with the Srimulat team back in the days. We also catch Marshanda, Ririn Ekawati, Reza Rahardian, and many more prominent names attending the Gala Premiere.

Film Srimulat: Hil yang Mustahal will be on Indonesia's cinema nation-wide starting May 19th 2022.
